"As a team, in Cosmetic Surgery, the doctor and the patient would join together to contribute to the outcome equally. The surgeon does the surgery and the patient has to follow the instructions of the doctor carefully and completely, in order for the team to get the best possible results. However; what is important to realize is that, even when the patient/doctor team do their level best; that only accounts for fifty percent of the ultimate results. The other fifty percent is dependant on the nature of the patient, their healing capacity, genetic predisposition to scar formation and etc.
I have done hundreds of cosmetic surgeries in my career and I continue to be humbled realizing how as Cosmetic Surgeons, in order to finally be honored with happy patients, we are dependant on numerous factors outside of our control including the patients' healing capacity, their medical and psychiatric history; level of obesity or their amount of skin laxity, their history of pregnancy and the number of pregnancy; their life style and job demands as well as hundreds of other factors. After all, a construction expert; builds a wall and the wall has no part in the outcome. The final result is dependant on the work of the construction person; however; surgery is not like that. Even if we do a perfect surgery; and you as a patient do one hundred percent of your best to follow my instructions; that only adds up to fifty percent of the results. We are still dependant on your healing capacity and "the nature" for the other fifty percent (which is unpredictable and not-controllable by neither the patient nor the surgeon).
To have a happy patient, a surgeon, must not only do his best to perform a great surgery; but also the patient has to do his or her best to do everything that is necessary; and then the patient and the doctor have to hope that the nature will also cooperate. For example in case of liposuction; after we do liposuction of the body/hips and flanks; there is a good percentage of the molding of the tissues that is dependant on the liposuction garment that the patient wears. If a patient wears a liposuction garment that has a zipper on the sides, this can result in some asymmetry of the sides and hips where one side of the hips may be pushed in more on one side than the other by the garment's zipper resulting in some asymmetry after the molding process. There is a chance that there are some floating fat cells after liposuction that get trapped and molded in a certain area and then grow as transplants. Additionally, there is a possibility that since the maximum fat that can be removed from an individual is five liters, if you are a large person; the surgeon could not remove more than five liters from the patient's body. It is not safe in certain cases to remove too much fat from any individual in a single session. A surgeon must always consider the safety of his patients first. Cosmetic surgeons should always do their best to get the best results and have their patients happy, as their patient's satisfaction is any great surgeons' utmost reward. However; patients must also understand that due to unpredictability of "the nature", the healing is unpredictable. In addition, there are many other reasons for these types of unpredictable occurrences. That is why no surgeon can ever guarantee results in cosmetic surgery."
In Cosmetic Surgery, Expectation of Perfection is almost always not realistic. Most doctors who perform cosmetic surgery do a good job, but every so often, no matter what profession one is in, one does come across individuals who always expect more and are almost "NEVER SATSIFIED" no matter what an excellent level of care and results they receive. Those types of patients are not necessarily good candidates for Revisional Cosmetic Surgery. Revisional Cosmetic Surgery is for those patients who are selective and want excellent results and maximum improvement but are also realistic and clearly understand what is in fact realistically possible.
